International Training on "Strengthening TB Control in prisons of M/XDR-TB high-burden countries with emphasis on new diagnostics, drugs and regimens”

World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborative Centre (CC) on tuberculosis (TB) prevention and control in prisons based at the Main Medical Department of Azerbaijan Ministry of Justice in close collaboration with WHO Office for Europe and WHO Country Office hasperformed the next 6-day international training on "Strengthening TB Control in prisons of M/XDR-TB high-burden countries with emphasis on new diagnostics, drugs and regimens” in Baku, Azerbaijan on 14-19 May 2018.

The course faculty was represented by experts from WHO Office for Europe, WHO headquarters, WHO CC (Azerbaijan and Italy), National TB Programme, International Committee for the Red Cross, Center of Excellence on Infection Control, Stop TB Partnership/Global Drug Facility and Médecins Sans Frontières. Participants learned the latest and most updated recommendations on management of TB and multi drug-resistant TB and gained a unique first-hand practical experience on how WHO recommendations on TB control can be implemented in prison settings during multiple site visits accordingly to the course agenda.

The training auditory was represented by 14 officers from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, Directorate of Sanctions Execution of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the Philippines, El Salvador and Sri Lanka.

The course participants shared a very positive feedback and underlined the Training’s valuable contribution in promotion the good practices in management of TB among prisoners.
