The First World Conference on "Health in Prisons" organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva (Switzerland) has successfully ended.
The purpose of the event was to increase awareness, knowledge and skills of Health authorities, senior management, healthcare and safety workers, academics and researchers on health in detention, as well as the joint promotion of a whole-of-government management approach to health care in prisons.
The conference, attended by more than 450 participants from 80 countries, including leaders and managers of the Geneva office of the ICRC, leading experts from all represented continents, representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Council of Europe, administrative heads of penitentiary systems and healthcare professionals, was participated by the MMD MoJ of Azerbaijan team leaded by the Head, as well as TABIB, CSOs, WHO CO representatives.
Taking into account the experience of Azerbaijan in Tb response in prisons, with the initiative of the ICRC Headquarters, the agenda of the symposium "Infectious diseases: tuberculosis and diseases transmitted through blood" included a presentation by the MMD MOJ Head on the topic "TB Control during COVID-19 Pandemic in Prison settings of Azerbaijan”.
At the special poster sessions, Azerbaijan delegation presented 5 posters on various topics, widely covered the experience of Azerbaijan in various areas of TB control, initiated discussions and dialogues with the participants of the session.
